Gemma Tsui /Where is the Light?
Right now, do you miss being completely accepted in a space, with a group of people, or in a particular behavior? For me, mountain climbing is a way to escape and a sense of belonging. After shooting mountain landscape for a few years, I initially thought of organizing my photos based on the order of creation in Genesis, separating them into categories like light, sky, trees and creature. However, I failed it. Because no matter how hard I tried to distinguish them from each other, light is in every photo. Afterwards, I decided to focus on light itself and gave this photobook a shot under the guidance of @sokong_publish . All photos are taken with my Rollei 35S camera on ISO 200 films up in the mountains over 3000m in Taiwan, and all the pages are delicately folded to show the layers of the mountain landscapes, visually mirroring a hikers’ topographic map and implying how a hiker find the light in his journey step by step. At the same time, the pronunciation of light in Greek “phós” is similar to “folds”. Therefore, from content to binding, every detail of the photobook is guiding us toward the LIGHT. There’s only one printed book for now, which will be presented at @fotobookdummiesday Type E section. |
